In phone-driven businesses the best paid search lead is a call, but Google sees only that a call happened, not which campaign produced it or whether it was any good. We built our own dynamic number insertion and bid on qualified calls, using a duration threshold drawn from your own sales history, so spend chases revenue instead of ringing phones.
By default, Google Ads cannot see what happens on the phone. It records that a call connected, maybe how long it lasted, and nothing about whether the caller ever became a customer.
So if you optimize toward "calls," Smart Bidding does exactly what you asked: it buys more calls, including the cheap, unqualified, and misdialed ones. Cost per call drops, everyone celebrates, and cost per acquired customer quietly climbs. The fix is to stop counting calls and start counting qualified calls, then feed only those back to Google as conversions. That is the call-tracking layer of our PPC and Google Ads management.

We built our own DNI rather than renting a third-party tool. Each traffic source is assigned its own tracking number, so every inbound call is attributed to the campaign and source that produced it.
We size the pool to real demand so numbers never collide and attribution stays clean: we start at 50% of your peak-hour session volume, with a floor of five numbers. If your busiest hour sees 100 sessions, we provision 50 numbers.
Each call is measured against a duration threshold drawn from your own sales history, so misdials and unqualified calls never reach the bidding algorithm. The threshold is set with data, not a guessed timer.
Every qualifying call is sent to Google as an offline conversion with a fixed value, so Search, Performance Max, and Demand Gen all optimize toward qualified calls rather than raw volume.
Why conversions should lock at dispatch, not deposit: auto transport leads →
Counting every call teaches Google to buy cheap, low-quality calls. We only count calls that clear a data-driven quality bar, so bidding optimizes toward calls that actually become customers.
We set the qualifying duration from your own history, not a guessed 30 or 60 seconds. We take your past sales-qualified calls and find the 20th-percentile duration: the length that 80% of your qualified calls lasted at least. A call shorter than that has historically had very low odds of being qualified, so it is not reported to Google as a conversion. Only calls at or above the threshold are sent, with a fixed value, so Smart Bidding trains on genuinely qualified demand. Most agencies either count every call or use a flat timer, and both feed Google noise that caps the account at a cost-per-call ceiling.

Once Google is optimizing toward qualified calls instead of raw calls, adding budget buys more good conversations, not more noise.
Qualified-call events sit alongside form and CRM events in the same revenue-based bidding model, so a call-heavy account is measured as rigorously as a form-heavy one. This is the phone side of the same pipeline behind our Google Ads offline conversion tracking, and it uses the same first-party call data we wire into Hyros phone call tracking. As the CRM records which calls closed, actual revenue values are layered back in on top of the qualified-call signal. The target those values feed is set in our target ROAS guide.
Each step is set from your own data before it influences bidding. To check the rest of the account’s tracking first, work through our Google Ads audit checklist.

In April 2026, Google began rolling out AI-qualified call conversions: Gemini evaluates eligible calls, determines whether a conversion actually happened, rules out misdials and low-intent calls, and attributes each qualified call back to the campaign that drove it. Raw call duration is no longer the primary conversion signal, and the broader rollout was confirmed at Google Marketing Live 2026 as part of 42 lead generation launches. Coverage of the initial release is here.
This validates the principle this page is built on: duration was always a proxy, and qualification is what matters. Our 20th-percentile duration floor stays in place as the micro-event gate, and native qualification stacks cleanly on top of it.
Google qualifies the call. We value it. Native scoring decides whether a conversion happened. Our disposition-gated pipeline decides what the call was worth, using CRM outcomes and collected revenue, and passes that value back to bidding. A yes/no signal is a floor; a revenue value is a strategy.
Each traffic source draws a unique number from the pool, so an inbound call maps to the campaign and source that generated it. Combined with the click data we store on the landing session, the call is connected back to the ad that earned it. Google's call reporting uses the same forwarding-number and minimum-duration mechanics.
A call that lasts at least as long as the threshold we set from your own history. We take your past sales-qualified calls and find the 20th-percentile duration, the length 80% of your qualified calls met or exceeded. Calls shorter than that have historically had very low odds of qualifying, so they are not reported as conversions.
No, because the same duration threshold that qualifies real calls filters them out. A robocaller or misdial will not stay on the line with a sales rep long enough to clear the 20th-percentile threshold, let alone complete a transaction, so it never reaches Google as a conversion. The qualification method screens spam automatically.
A fixed value per qualified call gives Smart Bidding a stable, high-quality signal while the call is still fresh. Actual closed-revenue values are layered in later through our offline conversion architecture, once the CRM records the outcome.
Yes. Calls from call-only campaigns and from call assets on search ads are tracked and qualified the same way, so phone-first campaigns are measured as rigorously as landing-page conversions.
Standard tools report that a call happened and how long it lasted. We built the number pool, the data-driven qualification threshold, and the offline conversion pipeline as one system, so a qualified call becomes a bidding signal, not just a line in a dashboard.
